Present investigation was carried out on an alkali irrigated Sodic Vertisols during 1999–2000 to find our effect of soil amendments viz., gypsum and FYM on yield and uptake of nutrients by cotton. Results revealed that for better yield, salt affected soil and irrigation water should be amended with gypsum or FYM or their combination. Combination of gypsum @ 100% gypsum requirement (GR) with FYM @ 5 t ha−1 gave significantly higher yield and uptake of nutrients by cotton as compared to FYM alone, 50% GR alone or in combination with FYM and without amendment. Significant increase in cotton yield was observed with good quality irrigation water as compared to irrigation with alkali water. Fertility status of soil improved with amendments on salt affected soil.
