Abstract

Genetic variability and interrelationship were worked out in 32 F2 segregating lines of soybean {Glycine max (L.) Merril} and their parents grown in mid-altitude of Meghalaya. High heritability and genetic advance were noticed for plant height, number of unfilled pods, seed weight/plant, number of pods, number of pod clusters and 100 seed weight. Among the ten characters, significant correlation with yield was exhibited by days to maturity and 100 seed weight in positive direction and incidence of frog eye leaf spot (FELS) was in negative direction. Interrelationship was also observed among the traits viz., days to maturity, 100 seed weight, and number of branches/plant, total number of pods/plant and number of pod clusters/plant. Hence, selection of longer duration, FELS disease free plants producing bolder seed from these segregating generation would result in the superior genotypes.
