Abstract

An experiment in sesame was conducted with the aim of understanding the association of seven metric characters namely, days to 50 per cent flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of primary branches, number of capsules per plant, 100-seed weight and oil content with seed yield per plant. Correlation studies showed that characters viz., number of capsules per plant, plant height and number of primary branches had positive significant association with seed yield. Path analysis revealed the presence of high positive directt effect of number of capsules per plant and plant height on seed yield and hence considered as selection indices for selection programme for seed yield in sesame improvement programme.
