Influence of seed treatment of 100 ppm maleic hydrazide (MH) at different exposure periods was evaluated in two Allium cepa L. varieties viz., N-53 and N-2-4-1. Estimation of pigment content, polyphenols, total sugars, proteins, ascorbic acid, RNA etc. revealed a beneficial effect of the maleic hydrazide on the two onion varieties. The exposure period of 6 hours exerted a promising effect in both the varieties.
