High phenotypic coefficients of variation (PCV) was observed for seed yield per plant followed by number of filled seeds/head, harvest index, number of unfilled seeds/head and 100 seed weight. The characters plant height, days to 50% flowering and days to maturity showed close correspondence between GCV and PCV, while number of unfilled seeds/head, harvest index, number of filled seeds per head and seed yield per plant were the most affected by environment. Selection for seed yield per plant, number of filled seeds/head, 100-seed weight and harvest index, possessing high GCV, heritability and genetic advance are expected to result in genetic improvement for these characters.
