Major constraints in off-season tomato cultivation in East Nimar region of Madhya Pradesh were blossom end rot, Alternaria blight and bacterial canker disease. Tomato fruits of early May transplanted crop succumbed heavily to blossom end rot in the month of July and to Alternaria and bacterial canker complex in the month of August–September. Tomato fruits of popularly cultivated variety NathAmrut were more susceptible to these diseases than variety Vaishali. Infection of Alternaria and bacterial canker were more on tomato fruits at chromoplast developmental stage. Losses due to blossom end rot were upto Rs. 20,000 and due to Alternaria and bacterial canker complex, upto Rs. 15,000/ha.
