The present investigation has been carried out with the objectives of finding out the extent of adoption of organic and inorganic fertilizers in basmati paddy along with determining the level of weedicide application. The Kurukshetra district was selected purposively with a sample size of 60 respondents. The findings of the study indicated that 100% farmers of Kurukshetra district were wasting their resources by applying nitrogenous as a basal dose, which was not recommended. The study further revealed that more than 50% farmers were applying phosphorous as a basal dose to the extent of 62.50 Kg/ha, whereas recommendation was for 30 Kg/ha. It was wastage of valuable resources. A large mojority of farmers were not applying FYM in basmati paddy, which was harmful for the health of soil in the long run. As a result of this, farmers were using over dose as well as under dose of fertilizers to the demands of present production level. Farmers are practising unbalanced use of fertilizers, which has led to environmental pollution, chemical residue in crop and finally degradation of soil health and unsustainable paddy production.
