Genetic variability and correlations were studied in 42 inbred lines of maize. The data were recorded on seed yield and six yield related traits. Grain yield was found to be positively correlated with cob length kernel rows/cob and kernels/row and 100 seed weight. Grain yield and cob length estimates combined with high genotypic co-efficients of variation and high heritability were indicating additive gene action controlling these traits. Cob breadth had high positive indirect effects through kernel rows/cob; and low negative indirect effects through kernel rows/cob and 100 seed weight. Kernel rows/cob, kernels/row and 100 seed weight had significant positive correlation with grain yield.
