Abstract

The farmers in Haryana particularly small and marginal are showing interest in adopting mushroom cultivation. In addition to its high profitability the unemployed youths, housewives and farmers are attracted towards this enterprise because the space required for mushroom cultivation is available even at home and the surplus manpower of a family owing mushroom unit can be judiciously utilized. The state department of Horticulture and Krishi Vigyan Kendra are playing a major role for popularization of this enterprise. Inspite of all efforts, there are number of problems encountered by the mushroom growers in its cultivation. The major constraints in mushroom production technology were found to be the fluctuating price prevailing in the market, lack of cold storage and non-a availability of drawing equipments (100%), lack of information about marketing (90.00%), lack of finance (84.66%), lack of transportation facilities (76.36%), inadequate knowledge about mushroom production technology (70.00%) and non-availability of spawn (69.72%).
