Five insecticides viz., Chlorpyriphos 20 EC, Fenvalerate 20 EC, Monocrotophos 36 SL and Endosulfan 35 EC @ were evaluated against gall midge Dasyneeura lini Barnes on linseed cv 2023, during rabi 1998–99 and 1999–2000. Fenvalerate was highly effective for the control of gall midge, with highest grain yeild and maximum cost: benefit. Its half dose also recorded lower incidence with comparatively higher grain yeild and cost: benefit which was on par with Monocroptophos, Chlorpyriphos and Endosulfan 0.45, 0.25, 0.35 kg. a.i./ha respectively. The above treatments resulted in significant reduction of gall midge incidence (7.58 to 28.50%) as compared to 47.48% in untreated plots.
