Abstract

Correlation coefficient analysis between important qualitative and quantitative characters and redrot disease incidence among seven clones of inter varietal crosses with three standards revealed higher genotypic correlations. But SMT Brix, sucrose % and CCS % showed significant negative correlation and juice recovery % and cane length showed positive correlation. It revealed that to develop stable redrot resistant high yielding sugarcane cultivars/varieties, selection on the basis of above traits will not give fruitful results. Therefore, genetic transformation through biotechnological intervention may be opted.
