A field experiment was conducted in the same field of amaranthus, without disturbing the layout, using turmeric var. BSR 2 as test crop, to assess the residual effect of composts on rhizome yield and uptake of major nutrients by turmeric. The highest rhizome yield was recorded with the application of poultry manure enriched microbial inoculant/Trichoderma viride banana pseudostem compost @ 750 Kg ha−1 with 75 per cent of the recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF). The same treatment combination proved its superiority under sugarcane trash composts in enhancing the rhizome yield. With enriched composts of banana pseudostem/sugarcane trash @ 750 Kg ha−1 with 75 per cent of the RDF, the response in terms of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium uptake was also remarkable as compared to that observed under unenriched composts.
