Abstract

Twenty seven early maturing pigeonpea experimental hybrids resulting from L × T analysis were studied to know the magnitude of heterosis in pigeonpea. Heterosis over standard parent for single plant yield varied from –25.0%(CORG 990047 A × ICPL 87) to 325%(MS CO 5 × PA 128). For per se performance single plant yield varied from 15 g(CORG 990047 A × ICPL 87) to 85.0g (MS CO5 × PA 128). While considering about mean performance, sca effects and standard heterosis the promising hybrids namely CORG 990047 A × APK 1 which was found to be superior for days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height(cm), number of pods/plant, seed protein content and single plant yield; MS CO5 × ICPL 83027 had significantly higher mean performance, significant sca effects and standard heterosis for plant height, number of branches/plant, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod and single plant yield.
