Abstract

The indiscriminate use of chemicals in crop production has deteriorated the soil health and polluted earth's environment. To reverse the situation, there is need to switch over to organic farming. The present study was conducted in Sriganganagar district on a sample comprising 50 organic farmers. It was found that organic farmers were middle aged, possessing 4–10 ha, of land and show positive attitude towards organic farming. Organic producers have medium level of knowledge about practices of organic cultivation. Most of the farmers were taken Raj.1482 wheat variety for organic production. The study revealed that organic farmers received higher returns than inorganic farmers. Lack of standard package of practices, costly and complex certification process and inadequate marketing facilities had been identified as major constraints faced by the organic farmers.
