Abstract

The CERES-Wheat simulates wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) growth, development and yield. The model requires calibration for wheat grown in the specific environmental conditions before going to assess the yield potential of wheat under Punjab conditions. The investigation was carried out to calibrate the CERES-Wheat model for wheat growth, development and grain yield under different thermal and photothermal environments. The model correctly predicted biomass, leaf area index and total yield. The model estimated the yield with mean absolute error (MAE) values of 6.70, 8.22 and 4.70, and root mean square error (RMSE) values are 0.98, 0.96 and 0.78 so it can be concluded that the model should be used as tool for evaluating the potential yield in wheat under various photo thermal and thermal environments.
