Abstract

A set of 8x8 diallel crosses excluding reciprocal of Indian mustard along with their parents were evaluated in randomized block design with three replication in two set of environments. The estimates of gca effects on the basis of pooled analysis revealed that variety RH-8812displayed greater potential as good general combiner for all the six characters, Bio-902 and RH- 9304 also exhibited desirable gca effects for yield/plant, days to 50 % flowering, primaries branches per plant and number of siliqua/plant. The results of sca revealed that the 10 crosses showed positive and significant sca for seed yield. Out of these crosses two crosses namely RH8812 x Pusa Jai Kisan and Pusa Jai Kisan x RH819 were observed as best cross combination for early flowering and oil content also. The ratio of gca/sca indicated predominance of additive gene effects for plant height, days to 50 % flowering and primaries branch/plant, however additive and non additive gene effects were equally importance for number of siliqua/plant, seeds yield/plant and oil content.
