Rainfall Analysis for Drought Investigation in Krishna Zone of Andhra Pradesh

Abstract

Daily rainfall of Krishna zone of Andhra Pradesh for twenty five years was analyzed to investigate its behaviour on monthly basis. In the study period, four years were found to be wet, four years were found to be dry and the remaining seventeen years were found to be normal years. Out of 25 years of study, January and February months were found to be dry months which normally facilitates for the good harvest of the kharif sown long duration crops like cotton and chillies and rabi sown crops. The normal rainfall for Krishna zone is 926.8 mm. The standard deviation for annual rainfall for the zone was 187.9. Sixty five per cent of the total rainfall is received from South West Monsoon and twenty six per cent from North East Monsoon. Out of the 25 years of analysis, the south west monsoon was normal in 17 years and north east monsoon was normal in 21 years.
