The field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2007 at college farm, JNKVV, College of Agriculture, Rewa (M.P.).The treatment comprised of three levels of nitrogen (50 kg/ha, 100 kg/ha, 150 kg/ha) and 6 varieties (IET 19252, IET 19253, IET 19258, Vandana, Anjali, JR-201). Grain yield increased significantly with increased in levels of nitrogen. The maximum grain yield was obtained with the application of 150 N kg/ha, due to more no. of effective panicle/m2, panicle weight and test weight. The variety IET 19252 exhibited significant variations in respect to yield attributes like length of panicle, weight of panicle, test weight and sterility per cent over rest of varieties. The low yield of IET 19258, Vandana, Anjali, IET 19253 and JR 201 were due to poor test weight and high percentage of sterility. Maximum net return, B: C ratio was achieved through the treatment receiving 150 kg/ha nitrogen. Among the varieties, IET 19252 gave the highest economic return as compared to IET 19258 and Vandana.
