Abstract

The present study was carried out to evaluate the suitable conditions and packaging materials for safe storage of linseed (Linum usitatissimum). The studies revealed that 6–8 per cent moisture was the safest from germination and fungal infestation point of view. However 10–12 per cent moisture was most favourable for fungal infestation along with changes in qualities of seeds. The best containers for storage were gunny bags and/or baked earthen pots. During storage there were no changes in oil and protein content of seeds. However, free fatty acids increased steadily during storage.
