Abstract

An attempt has been made to study the effect of light intensity and degree of hydration in two mosses (Anoectangium clarum and Hydrogonium arcuatum) on protonemal growth and bud formation under aseptic cultural conditions. Hydrogonium arcuatum exhibited maximum protonemal growth and bud formation under 3500 lux of light and on medium containing 0.8% agar. In A.clarum also maximum protonemal growth was observed under similar conditions but buds failed to appear in all treatments of light and hydration.
