Abstract

The use of Optical amplifiers to improve the sensitivity of receivers has increased following the introduction of low-noise Erbium-Doped Fiber amplifiers (EDFA). Amplification by EDFA's or semiconductor optical amplifiers requires that most of spontaneous emission noise be removed by narrow-band filtering the output about the signal frequencies. Although, discussion of the problem of optically amplified receiver sensitivity is not new [1, 2].

The purpose of this work is a Fabry-Perot filter inserted in an optical transmission system, to improve its performance.
