Abstract

Recent research activities on WDM-PON1,2 access network architectures and related systems technologies are reviewed. key issues of current interest in WDM optical link is power attenuation and net optical power budget (NOPB) are demonstrated and verified with the help of test bed of 0.2km long WDM optical link. To find out the major passive component/s which is/are responsible optical power attenuation on the link can be found out for better NOPB value which also depends on attenuation due to these components. A 3dB of optical power attributed to a safety margin. Adding a safety margin allows one to take into account the inevitable degradation in fiber cabling, connectors, and aging effects of lasers and LEDs.
