A complete study of double pendulum experiment has been undertaken using a PC. The solutions of the Lagrangian equations of motion for the system are compared with simulation results obtained through model-based simulation in xcos, an application of Scilab. A video of the oscillations of the double pendulum has been captured using a webcam. Tracker, an open-source video analysis software, was used to obtain displacement vs time graph of the oscillations. Fourier transform was employed in Scilab to obtain normal mode frequencies experimentally, which were found to be in agreement with both theoretical and simulated results.
