Abstract

Gender sensitization is inextricably linked with gender discrimination. Gender sensitization is not only about sensitizing men and women but also sensitizing society at large. It is becoming increasingly imperative to educate young people about gender-related issues and to create awareness about gender norms and stereotypes, including women, men and the third gender. Gender programmes are often thought to be limited to only women and girls. This paper, therefore, attempts to investigate the challenges and future of gender sensitization awareness. The idea of sensitization is a means to an end: Awareness and a Sensitive approach. Among the several factors that can promote gender sensitization is Media which has a huge role in either propagating or dismantling gender-related myths. This paper looks at how society and media can assist in Gender Sensitization programmes and the Challenges it brings with them.
