Abstract

Magnetism in low dimension is a fast-growing area of research and bringing attention due to enthralling properties and future applications. This short review focuses on the theoretical perspective on the emergence of magnetism in two-dimensional (2D) materials. The present article describes basic models which are helpful to realize the magnetism in 2D van der Waals and non-Vander Waals materials. Also, a significant effect of layers and other physical factors on the magnetic order of the 2D system is scrutinized. In this concise review recent progress in 2D magnetism, propitious future directions, and advancements in this field are enlightened.
