Abstract

Veer Baal Diwas, observed annually on 26 December, commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who laid down their lives in 1705 while upholding the values of courage, faith, and righteousness. In 2025, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in India play a significant role in institutionalizing the observance of Veer Baal Diwas as part of value-based education and national character building. This abstract examines the relevance, objectives, and academic significance of Veer Baal Diwas celebrations in HEIs, with a focus on fostering constitutional values, ethical leadership, and youth engagement. Through seminars, lectures, essay competitions, cultural programs, and community outreach activities, HEIs act as vital platforms for transmitting the ideals of sacrifice, resilience, and social justice to young citizens. The observance aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes holistic education, Indian knowledge traditions, and experiential learning. Veer Baal Diwas 2025 in HEIs not only honors historical memory but also encourages critical reflection on moral courage, resistance to injustice, and inclusive nationalism. The study underscores the role of universities and colleges in integrating historical consciousness with contemporary civic responsibility, thereby strengthening democratic values and ethical citizenship among students.
