The teaching of Physics at college level is becoming monotonous due to several reasons. Majority of students take the course in Physics only because they feel chemistry and Mathematics more difficult to understand. The students only try to cover the syllabus for getting passing marks and are disinterested in any extra efforts. The students who are really interested and who enjoy the beauty of Physics are rare. This makes the teacher complacent and the teaching becomes a routine job. But then we have to make attempts to improve and find solutions to give life to the most important basic branch of Science. We have devised some methodology to make the classroom teaching interesting and we are trying to activate the interest of students in Physics. Our teaching is supported by following activities: A seminar contest in each term on basic topics of Physics where students are encouraged to participate in large number. A Physics Quiz to enhance the knowledge level of students. Physics exhibition on innovative ideas. Classroom demonstration of Physics experiments. Visits to places of scientific interest like science centers, TIFR, BARC, Planetarium, Sky watching etc. Arranging workshop for students to have hand-on experience of Physics basics.
The response of the students to such activities is a mixed type, but over the years the things are improving. Let us hope that Students start loving the subject and then only they will understand the depth of the subject.
