Abstract

Small Scale Industries may sound small but actually plays a very important part in the overall growth of an economy. Small scale industries can be characterized by the unique feature of labour intensiveness. There are over 6000 products ranging from traditional to high-tech items, which are being manufactured by the MSMEs in India. This study has examined the problems of Micro Small enterprises of District Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh. Three hundred eleven entrepreneurs were sample respondents in this study. The present paper is an effort to enlighten about the various problems being faced by the entrepreneurs in tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh and some measures to encounter the challenges coming in their ways and to develop entrepreneurship among the tribal people and in the tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh.

Industrialization has become the quickest mean of economic development, prosperity, abundance and the most effective tool of transformation of a relatively backward economy into an advanced forward moving economy and an agent of social change as well. Next to agriculture, small enterprises, captured by the rubric, “micro, small and medium enterprises” (MSMEs), is the most significant nutrient of the Indian economy. There are over 6000 products ranging from traditional to high-tech items, which are being manufactured by the MSMEs in India.Himachal Pradesh has become a favourite investment destination because of peaceful industrial climate, investor friendly approach, transparent and accessible administration, reliable power at reasonable tariff, well developed infrastructure like power, roads, inland container depot, proposed supply of piped Natural Gas & CNG for industrial, domestic, commercial, and transport sectors. Creation of trade centre, solid and hazardous waste management, labour hostel, land bank for the development of the industries has also helped in stabilizing the industries.
