Abstract

Mental well-being is one of the aspects of overall well-being and it includes states of happiness and life satisfaction as well as positive psychological functioning, good relationship with others and self-realization/acceptance. For measuring the same, a psycho-social study was conducted to quantitatively assess the mental well-being among the Indian Oil executive trainees. Also a comparative analysis of general v/s reserved category trainees was done. A sample size of 500, from all over India, is taken for the study. The Warwick-Edinbergh Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMWBS) was used as the psychological tool for testing the mental well-being. According to the results of sample size (N=500), the average level of mental well-being of candidates before the selection process is comparatively less than the mental well-being of candidates who got selected for the job after the selection process. There is evidence that mental well-being is a good conductor of how people and populations are able to function and thrive, but the increasing general stress level in both the industrialized and developing worlds can affect the mental negatively. To serve this need and to increase productivity, it is important to critically analyze it. Further researchers could examine how the work place and the home environment make an impact on the mental well-being of the employees and also how the negative effects can be minimized.
