The era of globalization, liberalization and privatization has opened the floodgate of competition for public and private sector banks in India. Therefore, the focus of banks has been seen more on increasing their productivity, profitability and improving operational efficiency. No doubt, it is very difficult to measure the productivity of service industry but from time to time an attempt has been made in this context. The present investigation also tries to investigate the difference between public and private sector banks on the basis of four different Productivity Measures viz., Investment, Deposit, Advances and Net Profit (consecutively for 3 years 2012–2013 2014). The t-test results indicate that the level of Productivity of Private Sector Banks is higher than Public Sector Banks.
