Abstract

This case report describes management of a 16 year old female with class III skeletal malocclusion who exhibited prognathic mandible and slightly retrognathic maxilla. Dental examination revealed reverse overjet, bilateral crossbite in premolar region, maxillary anterior crowding and lower midline shift to the left side. Treatment consisted of three phases: presurgical orthodontics to decompensate the occlusion which included extraction of second maxillary premolars, mandibular anterior set back surgery with extraction of mandibular first premolars followed by a short phase of post surgical orthodontics to attain stable occlusion. At the end of treatment ideal overjet, overbite, class I occlusion and esthetic facial appearance was achieved.
