The aim of the study is to analyse the potency of Isoamyl-2-cyanoacrylate (Amcrylatetissue adhesive in contrast to braided silk sutures in regards of intraoral wound closure after open flap debridement.
This study included a total 10 patients who required flap surgery. In the selected patients, the surgical sites were randomly divided into two treatment groups. In group I, surgical wound was approximated with Isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive and in group II braided silk sutures were used for wound coaptation and the clinical parameters were assessed.
Clinically and statistically a significantly higher results were seen in cyanoacrylate-treated wounds. The time taken for wound closure with Isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate was lesser. Early hemostasis was achieved with Isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate. The postoperative pain, swelling, and bleeding were less with Isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate. Higher incidence of wound infection and patient discomfort were observed in wounds treated with silk sutures.
Cyanoacrylate causes less tissue reaction and achieves immediate hemostasis. The procedure is relatively painless and quicker. There are benefits of protection from wound infection and wound dehiscence. So it may be concluded that isoamyl 2-cyanoacrylate can be used for intraoral wound closure effectively.
