In patients with sufficient bone volume, rehabilitation of the masticatory function with conventional dental implants can be achieved with predictable success rate and acceptable long-term results in various clinical situations. The severely atrophied maxilla constitutes a challenging therapeutic problem because bone augmentation is required to enable placement of a sufficient number and length of implants. With the advent of zygomatic implants, it is now possible to restore the complete edentulous patients without the need of aggressive bone grafting.
