The present study was conducted to compare fracture resistance of Class-II MOD cavities restored with close sandwich technique using different base materials.
40 extracted maxillary premolars were divided into3 experimental groups of10 each and two control groups of 5each. Group-I (Zirconomer), II(X-tra base), III (SDR Plus) with prepared Class- II cavities. A layer of 1mm base was applied on the pulpal floor and axial walls. In Group IV the tooth samples were kept intact and in Group-V the MOD cavities were prepared but not restored.
The One way ANOVA statistic analysis for Inter Group comparison revealed that there was statistically difference in the mean fracture resistance values (p<0.000). The mean values were best been in Group-IIX-tra Base (50.71+018MPA) followed by Group-IIISDR PLUS (49.87+ 0.42MPA) least been for Group-I Zirconomer(48.51+1.05MPA).All the experimental groups had high statistically significant fracture resistance when compared to natural tooth in terms of functionality. The post Hoc Tukey test revealed that among the three experimental groups the difference in the mean difference was not significant. (p<0.000)
