Abstract

Mucormycosis is an infection caused by a group of mucormycetes fungi. The management of mucormycosis is a multi-step approach which includes antifungal therapy and control of the underline risk factors followed by surgical intervention. Treating such patients with facial defects is difficult and requires a multidisciplinary team for comprehensive care and optimal post treatment functional outcomes. This case report describes prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient who presented with history of post COVID rhino-orbital mucormycosis followed by maxillectomy with right rhino-orbital exenteration to the department of Adesh Institute of Dental Sciences and Research (AIDSR). The patient was treated with delayed surgical obturator followed by hollow bulb interim obturator which was fabricated using Lost Salt Technique. The integrated efforts, knowledge and practical implications in rehabilitating such patients will improve their acceptance in the society and their quality of life.
