Prosthetic management of the maxillary and mandibular ridge defects have always been a challenge. These could be congenital or acquired. One such reason for the loss of the alveolar ridge is Osteo-odontokeratoprosthesis (OOKP). OOKP is a unique dental and ophthalmic blend forming a keratoprosthesis given in patients with end stage corneal blindness, leaving behind a huge soft and hard tissue defect in the donor site. Among the various restorative treatment modalities developed for the patient with a defective edentulous space is a fixed removable partial denture. This accomplishes the abutment teeth stabilization with a fixed component combining a removable partial denture to resolve challenging esthetic problems, restoration of the function and better hygiene maintenance.
This article describes rehabilitation of maxillary ridge defect resulted from OOKP surgery with a precision attachment-retained fixed-removable dental prosthesis.
