Assessment & Evaluation of Anxiety and fear levels towards Dental Treatment- A comparative survey

Abstract

a) To determine a correlation between field of study & Dental Anxiety and Fear levels; b) To compare DAF levels among dental professionals & other Professionals; c) Effect of age on DAF levels.

A total of 600 questionnaire prepared in English which was divided into four sections having 23 questions were distributed by hand among graduates, post graduates and teaching staff members of various professional colleges of renowned university of North India. Every question in the proforma contained 4 options and each option was assigned 4 marks. The participants were instructed to give rating to per point ranging from 1–5.

Out of total 600 participants, 90 didn't fill their proformas because of some their personal problems. The data obtained from different institutions was graded as mild, moderate and severely anxious as well as low fear and afraid of dental treatment.

Further dental health education measures should be undertaken among the population in general in order to control the levels of anxiety and fear towards dental treatment to improve the patient's compliance.
