To compare the efficacy of three different methods for determining working length measurements of root canals.
A total of 90 patients with 90 teeth having single canals were randomly divided into three groups. In group 1, the WL was determined by WL radiograph, whereas in group 2 and 3, it was determined by EAL and endomotor integrated apex locator respectively.
No statistically significant difference was observed between the three groups in terms of underestimation (Group 1=3.3%, Group 2=6.7% and Group 3=6.7%) and acceptable (Group 1=83.3%, Group 2=90% and Group 3=93.3%) working lengths. Over estimated working lengths in master cone radiography were seen to be significantly more in Group1 (13.3%) as compared to Group 2(3.3%) and 3(0%).
Endomotor integrated apex locator was found to be the most efficient and accurate clinically in determining the final working length of the root canal system followed by the electronic apex locator and radiography respectively.
