Neutrophils forms the predominant type of phagocytes in the body. They are polymorphonuclear leucocytes that are essential components of immune system. Neutrophils cannot efficiently differentiate between foreign and self-antigens. So this nonspecific response combined with powerful weapons of neutrophils in some cases may lead to damage of normal tissues. The awareness of diseases associated with neutrophil abnormalities, their early detection, and proper therapy will improve the prognosis of such conditions.
