Tissue lost in track: Thyroglossal duct cyst

Abstract

Thyroglossal duct cysts are one of the most common midline neck masses to be encountered, which affects about 7 % of the general population. Alabama born and graduate in medicine from New Orleans, Walter Ellis Sistrunk in the year 1920 described the surgical procedure for the excision of thyroglossal duct cyst which even today is considered to be the gold standard for its treatment. We present a case of paediatric female patient, who presented with thyroglossal duct cyst which was meticulous dissected and completely removed with no recurrence.
