Abstract

Oral health care management in the elderly population is distinct from that of younger individuals due to various physiological changes and overall health status alterations associated with aging. Hence; the present study was conducted for assessing prosthodontic status and treatment needs of patients visiting dental institutions of Punjab.

This research involved a cohort of 250 participants. Individuals who lacked prosthodontic appliances or possessed only dental crowns (indicating no missing teeth) were excluded from the study. The participants included those with dental bridges, dentures, removable partial dentures, or a combination thereof. Each participant was requested to provide information regarding their educational background, oral hygiene practices, and frequency of dental visits. The collected data were employed to explore the relationship between these variables and the status of prosthodontics. A comprehensive clinical assessment of the participants was conducted.

Among the 250 participants, there were 135 males and 115 females. A total of 65 individuals were identified as completely edentulous and did not possess any prosthodontic devices. The presence of complete dentures was observed in 49 subjects, while 51 subjects had removable dentures, and 85 subjects utilized fixed appliances.

The majority of participants were entirely edentulous and lacked any form of prosthetic device. It is essential to conduct regular examinations of these individuals and to develop a suitable treatment plan to ensure their overall health and well-being.
