Abstract

Ceramic veneers are amongst the conservative indirect restorations which require minimally invasive preparations. Tooth preparation for ceramic veneer is minimally invasive and has less mechanical features for retentive purposes. Adhesive factor is a critical point in clinical success of these ceramic veneer restorations. Resin cements are used for luting ceramic restorations. This study was therefore undertaken with the aim to evaluate the clinical performance of conventional resin cement and self-adhesive resin cement used for luting ceramic veneers.

60 veneers were fabricated for the present study. For luting, the veneers were divided into two groups. Veneers of Group 1 (Gp1) were cemented using conventional resin cement and Veneers of Group 2 (Gp2) were luted using self adhesive resins cement. The restorations were evaluated according to the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria namely gingival index, marginal integrity, color match, marginal discoloration, restoration integrity, caries and post-operative sensitivity.

Clinical performance of the conventional resin cements and self-adhesive resin cements did not show statistically significant differences up to 06 months. The survival rate of restorations of both the group 100% up to 06 months. Newly developed self-adhesive resins performed clinically satisfactorily during 06 months follow up. Both conventional resin cements and adhesive resin cements can be used for luting ceramic veneers depending on the operator’s choice.
