Abstract

Pleomorphic adenoma can be defined as a benign mixed tumor composed of epithelial and myoepithelial cells arranged with a great histological diversity, such as differentiation into oncocytic, sebaceous, mucinous, squamous, chondroid, osseous or adipose cells demarcated from surrounding tissues by fibrous capsule. It is one of the salivary gland tumors affecting both major and minor salivary glands. Parotid gland is the most commonly affected of the major group. Among minor salivary glands, palate is the most common site intraorally.Often confused with other malignant tumours of salivary gland, systematic approach rather than aggressive treatment reduces patient morbidity and gives best results as in our case.

Here we present a case report of pleomorphic adenoma of minor salivary gland of hard palate in a young female. Treatment done was surgical excision with wide margins which was confirmed by a histopathological report. Surgical obturator was used to cover the defect.

Simple systematictreatment approaches often gives best results with follow up of the patient. In this case, complete resolution of the tumour following simple excision and regular monthly follow-up for 6 months to assess the healing and recurrence of the tumour was done.
