Open bite is defined as a condition of malocclusion “in which some teeth cannot be brought into contact,” when the jaws are closed. It usually applies to the vertical plane of space, when no overlap of the teeth is present, and the measurement of separation is the amount of open bite. Orthognathic surgery and camouflage therapy are the treatment options for those cases of skeletal open bite in which growth modification is no longer possible. Skeletal anterior open bites can be treated with maxillary surgery alone, mandibular surgery alone, or a combination of the two. Following article describes three case reports in which orthognathic surgical treatment planning was done to provide esthetically and functionally pleasing results to the patients.
