Odontogenic Keratocyst (Keratocystic Odontogenic Tumor) Mimicking A Dentigerous Cyst: Importance OF Histopathological Examination

The objective of this case report is to highlight the fact that the odontogenic keratocysts have the ability to mimickdentigerous cysts radiographically when associated with an impacted tooth.

An incisional biopsy of the lesion was received with a provisional radiographic diagnosis of dentigerous cyst. The tissue received was processed and Hematoxylin and Eosin staining was performed.

Upon histopathological examination it was found that it was an odontogenic keratocyat and not dentigerous cyst.

Radiographically, odontogenic keratocysts have the ability to mimic dentigerous cysts when associated with an impacted tooth. The final diagnosis must always be based on histopathological examination.
