Abstract

In the oral cavity, the processes of biodegradation, such as sliding, abrasion, chemical degradation and fatigue have an appreciable influence on the satisfactory clinical performance of dental restorations. A composite, a polyacid-modified composite resin and a Resin-Modified glass-ionomer cement were made into pellets and stored in food-simulating liquids - citric acid, lactic acid and heptane for 7 days and 30 days following which their microhardness and surface roughness was evaluated. Maximum changes were noted in first 7 days and composite showed the maximum and RMGIC showed the minimum resistance to the effect of food-simulating liquids.
