Abstract

Comminuted zygomatico complex fracture has challenged the diagnostic and operative skill of surgeons throughout the decade. A variety of methods have been used over the years for the management of zygomatico complex fracture and each has its own advantage and disadvantages. Antral packing with gauze or a balloon can be used occasionally in much comminuted fractures particularly with anterior antral wall communication.

We hereby presenting case report of two patients diagnosed to have zygomatico complex fracture. Intraoperative decision was taken to stabilize the fracture segment with temporary inserted Foley's catheter balloon. The balloon was deflated gradually after 5th day and removed on the 7th day. Twelve months follow up showed that this simple procedure provided adequate stabilization to the fractured zygomaticomaxillary complex without any complications. The successful results obtained in these cases suggest that foley's catheter stabilization may be a logical and useful approach in the treatment of comminuted zygomatico maxillary fractures.
