Periodontal complications and management of papillon-lefevre syndrome - A case report

Papillon-Lefevre syndrome (PLS) is a rare autosomal inherited disease characterized by palmo-plantar hyperkeratosis and early onset periodontitis leading to severe periodontal disease and tooth loss. Successful periodontal management of PLS patients remains challenging. A multidisciplinary approach is needed to effectively treat such patients. This paper focuses on the periodontal management of a male patient aged 16 years who was diagnosed with PLS showing hyperkeratosis of palms and soles and advanced periodontal disease. Thorough periodontal care, administration of antibiotics both local and systemic along with full mouth disinfection and later host modulation therapy has helped the patient to maintain periodontal health even on eight months follow up.
