To evaluate the effectiveness of precured fiber inserts in reducing gingival microleakage in deep class II resin composite restorations: An in vitro study.
Class II slots were prepared below the cement-enamel junction on both the proximal sides of twenty freshly extracted mandibular molars. Teeth were divided into four groups according to the type of fiber insert (precured or direct) and use of flowable composite (Filtek Z350) as a liner. Filtek P-60 (3M/ESPE) posterior composite was used to restore all cavities. The specimens were thermocycled and stained with 0.2% Basic Fuchsin dye and sectioned to evaluate the dye penetration under Stereomicroscope. Statistical analysis was done using Kruskal wallis test and Mann whitney U test.
This study showed that, group with precured fiber insert, with flowable liner, showed significant reduction in microleakage scores as compared to the group without fiber inserts and the groups in which precured fibers were not used.
