Abstract

Generally natural rubber latex (NRL) allergy is detected after some exposition to the material. As NRL is commonly found in different materials used daily in dental clinic, the allergy can be manifested in the pediatric as well as adult dentistry clinic. The first clinical manifestation can be smooth but also severe; therefore it is important to know different manifestations and how to prevent them. It is the purpose of this evidencedbased review to examine the contents of natural latex rubber (NLR), the symptoms of latex sensitivity and latex allergy, identify persons most susceptible to latex allergy, identify methods to protect healthcare workers and patients, and finally to identify products that contain latex and their alternative counterparts that have been manufactured latex-free.
